Payson’s “Outlaw Trail”

This trail roughly parallels the modern AZ Hwy 87. It runs from Rye, AZ up through Upper and Lower Round Valley and will end up on the Tonto Apache Indian Reservation at the Mazatzal Casino. 12 miles one way, this easy to moderately rated trail will present some rutted sections and some climbs. Outlaw Trail takes about an hour to run and when combined the previously mentioned FR 414 trail turns into an incredibly scenic loop with no backtracking.
